Off the Grid Brings Battle Royale On the Chain with GUNZ Mainnet

Robert Hoogendoorn

Since its early access launch last year, the battle royale shooter Off the Grid has been making waves in the blockchain space and beyond. It managed to attract normal gamers without prior knowledge about Web3, but now Gunzilla Games is building towards the full release of Off the Grid, powered by GUNZ mainnet.

At the moment of writing, GUNZ mainnet is already live. However, Off the Grid is still in its early access stage, and not all features are available on mainnet yet. However, players can already trade game items on the NFT marketplace using GUN tokens earned through the game. While some players have early access to the mainnet version of the marketplace.

DappRadar is already one of the few organizations tracking activity for Off the Grid. Through the Off the Grid project page you can get instant insight in the number of active wallets engaging with the platform. Moreover, you can see how many transactions people complete, emphasizing player engagement. Currently we only track Off the Grid on testnet, but mainnet is supposedly. coming soon.

Mainnet May

Despite Off the Grid not being a finished product yet, players are trading items for prices that move into quadruple digits. Insiders, including  investor Piers Kicks from Delphi Ventures, suggest that Off the Grid will come to mainnet this May. As a title from one of his recent live streams, he referred to “Mainnet May”. Nonetheless, Off the Grid has been performing strongly in recent months.

We already wrote a guide on how to play Off the Grid and earn Hex and GUN tokens, so that’s a topic we won’t touch here. Instead we take a look at the some key data points and exciting developments surrounding Off the Grid and GUNZ mainnet.

Off the Grid maintained strong user engagement

  • After its launch in October, the battle royale shooter saw incredible growth. Following this period of hype, activity stabilized between December 2024 and February 2025. However, since March this year Off the Grid is seeing significant growth, with user counts increasing substantially. Did you know that the game attracts 15-20% more users during the weekend?
  • Since its launch in testnet, Off the Grid registered over 16.1 million unique active wallets
who have played the game, claimed rewards, traded assets or decoded Hexes.
  • The most active day for Off the Grid so far was March 30, 2025. On that day the game attracted 280,505 users engaging with onchain mechanics. Other days in the top 5 days by user activity all take place in the period between March 1st and May 12th, 2025. This highlights current momentum for the battle royale shooter.
  • In the past 30 days, Off the Grid attracted an average of 231,841 players per day. The total number of monthly active users over that same time period hit 697,536. That’s a 6.4% decline from the 30-day period before that.

Game items already selling for $1,000 or more

  • Most items traded on GUNZ testnet, sell for 1 or 2 GUN tokens. That’s a few cents. While the most expensive items sell for 25,000 GUN, or more than $1,500.
  • Off the Grid will bring trading of game items also to OpenSea, aside from their own internal marketplace. Both marketplaces need to be live when the game moves 100% to mainnet.
  • A select group of players already has access to the mainnet marketplace. The team is rolling this feature out to more players.

GUNZ mainnet migration

When you migrate your account from testnet to mainnet, various changes will happen in the background.

  1. Your GUN balance will be reset, so it’s best to use your GUN for some testnet marketplace purchases.
  2. All your items, including the listed ones, will be transferred to your mainnet account. Serial numbers will remain unchanged.
  3. The mainnet account will come with a completely new wallet address, assigned to your account.

It’s in the line of expectation that GUNZ mainnet will open up for all in May 2025.

  • In every match players now have a chance to find one of the 10 legendary weapons, with higher damage, more attachments and maximum combat effectiveness.

Closing words

As Off the Grid is aiming for its full mainnet release, the GUNZ mainnet already sparks a vibrant NFT marketplace where players trade items for thousands of dollars. Keep in mind that Counter-Strike has a $5 billion market cap for its weapon skins. Gunzilla Games has now set the stage for a digital economy where every shot fired and every item looted carries real-world weight. Will Off the Grid arrive on mainnet for everybody this month? Supposedly it’s Mainnet May, so we need to get ready for the fully realized vision of cyberpunk chaos on Teardrop Island.
