If you have a .com domain, you don’t actually own it. You’re renting it from a company named Verisign. And Verisign doesn’t even own .com! Their control can be taken from that at any time by the body that governs the Internet named ICANN.

Namebase lets you buy and sell Handshake ($HNS) tokens, while enabling the buying, selling, and minting of Handshake domains.

Handshake domains are Top Level Domains (like .com, .org, .io, etc.) that anyone can own. Normally, Top Level Domains can only be acquired if approved by ICANN, the entity controlling all domain ownership, and the root zone file of the Internet.

Handshake decentralizes this root zone file, allowing anyone to register .theirname/. This is the only way to have true domain ownership, and own your identity on the web.
