MultiversX, formerly known as Elrond, is a distributed blockchain network for next generation applications. MultiversX and the EGLD token
MultiversX was formerly known as Elrond. While the name changed, the native EGLD token remains core to the MultiversX ecosystem. EGLD, also known as eGold token, enables access and usage, provides security, reinforces growth, and ensures economic alignment for all stakeholders.
Users and developers can use EGLD in various ways on the MultiversX network.
- Secure the network – Users and developers can stake their EGLD with one of the many validators, and participate in securing the network. Users who stake receive an average APR of 8%.
- Powers computation – Users and developers need EGLD to perform transactions and send assets. The average cost for a transaction is approximately $0.002.
- Governance – Those who stake EGLD with one of the validators, or simply hold EGLD in their wallet, will have a vote in governance decisions.
To utilize dapps on MultiversX users will need a wallet. With xPortal the network has its own mobile wallet, while the MultiversX Web Wallet is also a user-friendly solution. Alternatively, users can install the MutliversX browser extension to make a wallet as well. Once users have a wallet with some EGLD in it, they are ready to explore MultiversX and its rich ecosystem.
